Tips to get the best results

Is picture quality affected?

It’s a bit like taking a photograph through your window at home. First of all the window needs to be as clean as possible. Even with a clean window you may notice some reflection, but the closer you hold the camera lens to the window, the less the reflection. Similarly our cases give best results with the lens window tight against the camera lens.

Try to avoid flash photography but if you do need to use the flash make sure that the case is tight over the flash so the light doesn’t reflect back into the lens.

Keep the lens window clean and avoid scratching it. Try to look after it the same way you look after your camera lens.

Taking photos underwater

It takes a bit of practice and a little luck to get really good underwater photos – please don’t think that every shot you take is going to make the cover of SportDiver magazine.

You need strong sunshine and clear water. The middle of the day is best, when the sun is at its highest.

Best results will be just below the surface. Light disappears quickly as you go deeper, as do colours (one of the advantages of digital cameras is that you can retouch your photos afterwards to replace colours lost underwater).

Even clean water is full of microorganisms and other particles. The less water between you and your subject, the less difference this will make and therefore the clearer your shots are likely to be. Wide lens and close up is the secret.

Flashlight

The flashlight of your camera can reflect inside the case. For this reason please avoid using your flashlight under water. There are microorgansims and other particles in the water. That’s what you flashlights, not the fishes or the corals. If you want to use your flashlight please make sure that the lense of your camera is a close as possible to the Lenzflex foil or the lense of the cases. Even the flashlight should be as close to the foil as possible.

Using a zoom

The more you zoom and the more the angle is getting smaller the more thicker seems to get the foil. So the quality of the photo or video is getting a little bit worse. If you want to zoom or your camera drives out the zoom when you  put in on, you should tear out the Lenzflex-lense in front of your objective a little bit. In this case you bring in some air in the case so that your zoom gets place. At least you should drive out the zoom in the open case before you turn off the zoom.

Some cameras have a very sensitive sensor that will zoom in the objective in case the zoom touches the case. For that reason many of our customers prefer our case small camera with hardlense.  You can take great photographs right through the Hard Lens built onto the case

Our messures of the cameras/videos in our lists are the maximum: that is not reached in praxis too often. There is a chance that you could not zoom maximum at all. Please do not blow the case because you are  putting additional humidity in the case.

Underwater

The cases are proofed to 5 metres, but really good pictures you will not get such deep. It is to dark down there and the water pressure will vault the foil in front of your objective. So the picture will be blurred around the lense. The deeper you are the more it will be blurred.

Taking photos or videos

Splash-water: If your taking pictures where there might be splash-water please take a piece of cloth with you to whip drops off. Every drop will blurr the photo you take.
Under water: Best results will be just below the surface. Light disappears quickly as you go deeper, as do colours (one of the advantages of digital cameras is that you can retouch your photos afterwards to replace colours lost underwater).

The less water between you and your subject, the less difference this will make and therefore the clearer your shots are likely to be. Wide lens and close up is the secret. The best perspective is taking your picture horizontal or in a smooth angle against the surface. Picture taken to the ground will be to dark.  As you snorkel around a riff try to be on the sunny side.

Humidity

If you put your camera in the Aquapac when there is high humidity, the humidity will condensate in the case. The case will steam up. Best put your camera in the case when you are in an airconditiond room. Please use desiccant sachets, it will absorbe the humidity (you can buy one or two in our shop).

Going on vacation

Most of the cameras fit with the cases. To be sure and well equipped please exercise at home. You should go to your pool and try to get experienced there. It does not cost you anything: digital photos are free.  You could delete them - and try again. So you will learn fast.  The results of a compact camera you will see when you took them to the developer. And: the transportation lever of the film of old cameras won`t work in an Aquapac.

Films

For pictures underwater please choose ISO 200 or more.

Borders

You can use your Aquapac in sand, snow, dust, rain, splashy water, dirt or underwater. Places you could not take your camera/video to normally. If you want to take professional photos you should buy – more expansive - profi-cases to get the best result.
